A garden clearance takes a garden from overgrown, cluttered or neglected back to a usable space, and takes every scrap of waste away. Tell us what needs doing and you get an instant price range. We then pass your enquiry to one local clearance specialist in your area, who confirms a fixed price from your photos, usually the same day.
Branch and Bramble does not do the work itself. We connect you with a local specialist, and your agreement is with them.
What's covered
Most clearance jobs fall into one of these, and plenty of gardens need two or three at once:
- Overgrown garden clearance: long grass, self-seeded saplings, shrubs that have taken over and beds you can no longer find.
- Bramble clearance: cutting back thickets and digging out the root crowns so they don't return within a season.
- Green waste removal: you've done the cutting and just need the piles or bags taken away, priced by van load.
- Shed removal: dismantling and removing old sheds, fence panels, decking and rubble.
- Hedge trimming: routine maintenance cuts to keep a hedge tidy and in shape.
If the job involves cutting down or reducing trees, taking out a hedge completely or grinding stumps, that is tree work. See tree surgery or hedge removal instead.
Indicative prices
These are the starting figures our estimator uses. They include taking the waste away.
| Job | Indicative price |
|---|---|
| Light clearance (a tidy-up, a few hours' work) | £220–£320 |
| Moderate clearance (a season or two of neglect) | £380–£600 |
| Heavy clearance (several years of growth) | £650–£1,000 |
| Abandoned garden, untouched for years | Free survey |
| Green waste collection, car boot to full van | £80–£330 |
| Shed removal, small to large | from £150 |
| Hedge trimming | about £10 per metre, minimum £150 |
The minimum job is £150. For a full breakdown with worked examples, see the garden clearance cost guide.
When you need a clearance
Common reasons people get in touch:
- You have bought or inherited a house and the garden has been left for a few years.
- You are selling, and an overgrown garden is putting viewers off.
- You are a landlord clearing up between tenants.
- You want a garden room, patio or new lawn, and the old shed and undergrowth have to go first.
- The garden has simply got ahead of you and you would rather start again from a clean slate.
What affects the price
- How overgrown it is. This sets the band: light, moderate, heavy or survey.
- Garden size. A small yard usually drops one band lighter. A large garden moves one band heavier, and a very large one two bands.
- What the waste is. Green waste is cheapest to dispose of. Rubble, old fencing, general rubbish or structures mixed in add about 20%, because they go to different disposal sites at higher rates.
- Access. If everything has to be carried through the house, or the garden is more than 20 metres from where the van can park, expect about 15% more.
- Hazards. Suspected asbestos, Japanese knotweed or old chemicals mean a survey or a separate specialist. They cannot go in a normal clearance load.
As an example, a moderate clearance in a large garden moves up to the heavy band, £650–£1,000. If the only way out is through a terraced house, add about 15% to that.
How it works through Branch and Bramble
- Answer a few questions about the garden and upload photos. You see an indicative price range straight away.
- One specialist gets your enquiry. We work with one local clearance specialist per area, so your details go to one business, not a list of firms who will all ring you. Before we pass on any enquiry we check that the specialist is registered as a waste carrier with the Environment Agency.
- They confirm a fixed price, usually the same day, from your photos. If the job needs a look in person, they arrange a free survey.
- You decide. There is no obligation to go ahead, and you pay the specialist directly if you do.
We cover Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, including Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, South Birmingham and Edgbaston and Harborne.
Questions about garden clearance
How much does a garden clearance cost in Birmingham?
Most jobs fall between £220 and £1,000 including waste removal. A light tidy-up is £220–£320, a moderate clearance £380–£600 and a heavy one £650–£1,000. Gardens left for many years are priced after a free survey. These are indicative figures; the specialist confirms a fixed price from your photos.
Is the waste taken away?
Yes. Every price on this page includes loading and removing the waste. If you would rather keep some green waste for your own compost heap, say so on the form and the specialist will adjust the price.
Do I need to be at home?
Not always. If the specialist has access through a side gate or back lane and you have agreed the price and the scope in advance, many jobs can be done while you are out. Access through the house obviously needs someone in.
Can you clear a garden that has Japanese knotweed in it?
Not as part of a normal clearance. Knotweed is controlled waste and needs specialist treatment and disposal. Mention it on the form and the specialist will clear the rest of the garden around it and point you to a knotweed contractor.
Should I cut the garden back myself first to save money?
You can, and if you pile or bag it, green waste removal priced by the van load is usually cheaper than a full clearance. Our guide on how to clear an overgrown garden covers the tools and the order to work in.
